Children's Privacy Notice

Muzinity is a music-school management platform used by studios and schools to organize lessons, practice, and progress. Some students who use Muzinity are under 13. This notice explains how we handle their information and the role parents play, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Children do not sign themselves up

Children cannot sign themselves up as students. No account can be created on this website, and in the Muzinity app, student accounts can only be created by a music school’s administrator. When an administrator indicates that a student is under 13, that student’s access is limited until a parent or guardian gives consent through the process described below.

When a school flags a student as under 13, Muzinity sends the parent or guardian a direct notice, by email or (where the school has provided a parent’s mobile number for this purpose) by text message, describing what information is collected, how it is used, the parent’s rights, and what happens if the parent does not respond. The parent can then:

Give consent with one click in that notice, which restores the student’s full access immediately, and
Receive a follow-up confirmation about a day later that includes a link to revoke consent.

Until a parent gives consent, a flagged student who has their own login can sign in but cannot use features that store their work (such as practice logging and journal writing).

What we collect about students under 13

We aim to collect the minimum needed to run lessons:

Name, and an email address where the student signs in with their own login (many younger students use parent-managed accounts that have no email or login at all)
Practice logs (duration and notes), used to track progress and provide feedback
Lesson schedule, used to coordinate lessons with teachers
School messages the student sends or receives within the platform
Reward points and achievements earned, used for learning motivation

Students in group lessons may also appear to other members of their group and those members’ families by first name, along with practice tasks they finish. Teachers assign lesson materials to students; those materials are created by adults, not collected from the child.

We do not ask children for full birth dates. Whether a student is under 13 is indicated by the school’s administrator, not derived from information collected from the child. A birth month and day (never a year) may be entered by the school for birthday display; it is not requested from the child and is not used to determine age.

What we do not do

We do not show advertising to students.
We do not sell student personal information.
We do not permit children to make their information publicly available.
We do not collect acquisition or marketing-attribution data about students or families.

Parents’ rights

A parent or guardian has three separate rights, each available at any time:

Review the information collected about their child. Parents can see their child’s practice, progress, and journal through their own Muzinity parent account; to review everything we have collected, ask your music school or contact us at privacy@muzinity.com.
Revoke consent, using the revoke link in the confirmation message or the consent management page in the app. Revoking stops Muzinity from collecting or using the child’s information going forward and locks the practice account; it does not by itself delete information already collected.
Request deletion of the child’s account and collected information, using the account deletion option in the app or by asking their music school. Deletion is permanent after a short grace window during which the school can cancel a mistaken request. A limited, access-controlled safety record of content that was shown to students may be retained after deletion, as described in our Privacy Policy.

If a parent never responds to the consent notice, the child’s collected personal information is deleted within 30 days.
